As constitutionally elected officers, Florida’s tax collectors work to serve every Florida community by managing state resources and protecting citizens’ needs at the local level. Our members consider their public office to be a public trust, one that comes with a profound duty to the people of their counties and the entire state.
Elected tax collectors are stewards of public funds that are then directed to a variety of beneficial public purposes, while also efficiently and effectively managing the issuance of motor vehicle and other licenses. We take these dual responsibilities very seriously, and recognize the importance of performing them with the utmost integrity.
It is clear that during his tenure in office, former official Joel Greenberg violated the trust placed in him by the voters. His reprehensible misdeeds fly in the face of the high standards maintained by tax collectors throughout Florida. On behalf of the Florida Tax Collectors Association, we denounce in the strongest terms the disgraceful actions attributed to him.
Florida’s tax collectors will remain, as they always have been, steadfast stewards of public resources and the public trust.
